Lasting Powers of Attorney
Admission free and fun place to socialise
We welcome those who are affected by any type of Dementia or memory loss, their families and friends and anyone who may be interested.
David Williams will be talking about, and taking questions on, the reasons why these documents are very important. The following is an extract from an overview which can be found on page 10 of
the ‘ADS’ September Newsletter.
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document in which you appoint a person or people you trust (called ’Attorney’s) to act on your behalf in different areas of your life. LPAs are ’safeguard’
documents which ensure that, if you are unable to make decisions for yourself, someone you trust can make them for you; ensuring your best interests. An ‘attorney’ in the first in- stance can be your
wife/husband or partner with backup ‘attorney(s)’ should they too become incapacitated.
There are two types of LPA and you can set up one or both.
Property and Financial Affairs LPA : This LPA gives your
’attorney(s)’ the legal authority to act for you when you are no
longer able to manage your financial and property affairs.
Health and Welfare LPA : This protects your interests with
regard to your health and wellbeing.

There will be an opportunity to meet and talk, not only to David, but also to Health Professionals and Representatives from ’ADS’ on an informal basis. It is also a great opportunity to meet and exchange experiences and ideas with other Carers.
